Service-Learning Program in Peru

Conserving the biodiversity and ecosystem

Partner with CEPA Foundation to create a service-learning volunteer and/or awareness program. We will match projects in the community to meet the needs of your students and faculty leaders, or, together, we can create new initiatives that align with the objectives of the community and your students' learning journeys.

The service-learning projects at Inkaterra 's Amazon Field Station naturally focus on the fields of biology, conservation, forestry, animal science, and sustainable tourism. However, students from any academic field can significantly benefit from a service-learning experience. The Amazon Field Station is already a hub of scientific research that has laboratory equipment available to use, allowing students invaluable hands-on learning experiences right in the heart of the rainforest. The Amazon Field Station will become the classroom of a lifetime, whether identifying bird species, learning to track animal footprints, or seeing the forest come alive at night.

There is the opportunity for excursions to locations such as Lake Sandoval, considered one of the most biodiverse protected areas in the world, or a cocoa plantation to see how cocoa is grown. The Amazon Field Station can only be reached by boat, offering a deep sense of immersion in nature and isolation from civilization. The area surrounding the Amazon Field Station is relatively undisturbed, allowing you to observe numerous animals, birds, and insects in their natural state.

It is also possible to add a 3-day excursion to Machu Picchu to your service-learning program, which would undoubtedly be an incredible way to end the program. Machu Picchu is considered the most significant artistic, architectural, and cultural legacy of the Inca civilization. Many gaze in wonder at the numerous structures that seamlessly blend into the natural landscape.

Sustainability is a key theme woven throughout all activities and facilities at the Amazon Field Station. Inkaterra has been at the forefront of sustainable tourism in Peru for over 50 years. Electricity for the accommodation, laboratory, and meeting rooms is provided by solar energy. Meals are made from fresh local ingredients, allowing you to discover Peruvian cuisine.

For all service-learning programs in Peru, CEPA Foundation is working in close cooperation with Inkaterra. This Peruvian organization aims to preserve Peruvian culture, the environment and share it with the world. They are a 100% carbon-neutral organization with over 50 years of experience in sustainable tourism.
